Who can become a Rapido captain?
You can become a Rapido captain if you are 18 or older, hold a valid driving licence with at least 2 years of driving experience, and have a vehicle with valid papers. These conditions come from Rapido’s terms for captains.
The terms also ask that:
- You have no conviction, and no pending case, for drunk driving or a serious (cognizable) crime such as fraud, theft or violence in the past 3 years.
- Your vehicle has no pending traffic challans when you join.
- Your vehicle’s RC, insurance and pollution (PUC) certificate are valid, plus any permit your state asks for.
- You have the right to drive the vehicle, if it isn’t yours.
No bike? Rapido says you can rent an EV from Rapido in Hyderabad and Delhi. In other cities you need your own bike.

What documents do I need for Rapido captain registration?
Rapido’s Become a Captain page lists four documents: your driving licence, your vehicle’s RC, your Aadhaar or PAN card, and a profile photo. Keep these ready on your phone before you start:
- Driving licence, valid for the vehicle you’ll drive
- RC (registration certificate) of the bike, auto or cab you’ll use
- Aadhaar card or PAN card, as identity proof
- Profile photo, a clear selfie for your Captain account
- Bank account details, so you can move your earnings to your bank
- Vehicle insurance, which Rapido’s terms list among the papers it collects
Take photos of the original documents in good light, so every word can be read. Check that your name is spelled the same on all of them.
How do I join as a Rapido captain?
You join in the Rapido Captain app, in 5 steps:
- Download Rapido Captain from Google Play. It is a separate app from the Rapido app customers use to book rides.
- Sign up with your mobile number and create your account.
- Upload your documents: driving licence, RC, Aadhaar or PAN and your profile photo. Add your bank details for payouts.
- Wait for verification. Rapido checks your documents before it activates your account.
- Take your first ride. Once your account is active, go online and accept a ride from a nearby customer.
Get the app from Google Play, not from “Rapido Captain APK” download sites. Rapido doesn’t run those sites, and a changed app can steal your login or bank details. Our Rapido Captain app guide shows how to download it, log in and use it.

What happens after you register?
Rapido checks your documents, and its terms allow it to run police verification and background checks on you. Your account becomes active only after these checks.
Rapido’s terms for bike captains also say that, before onboarding, a captain must:
- Complete an induction training programme of 30 hours.
- Have a full medical check-up, including an eye test, at a medical centre Rapido chooses. Rapido pays for it.
Rapido’s website doesn’t say how long verification takes, so follow the steps the app shows you. Once you’re active, the app works out the distance and your earnings for every ride you complete.
What are the rules for Rapido captains?
Rapido’s terms set the rules. For bike captains, the main ones are:
- Carry only 1 passenger.
- Don’t work more than 12 hours in a day. Then take a 10-hour break before you log in again.
- No alcohol, cigarettes, bidi or any other intoxicant while you work, and no rash driving.
- Take calls from customers or Rapido only after you stop at a safe place.
- Don’t ask customers for tips or extra money.
- Don’t share your account with anyone.
- Don’t keep rejecting ride requests. Rapido can suspend or deactivate accounts that do.
You don’t have to work only for Rapido. Its terms say captains can use other apps at the same time, as the law allows.
Is Rapido bike taxi allowed in my state?
It depends on your state. Under the central government’s 2025 guidelines for ride apps, a state government “may allow” motorcycles to carry passengers, Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari told the Rajya Sabha in March 2026. So each state makes its own rules.
These rules can change quickly. In 2025, Rapido and Uber bike taxis stopped in Karnataka for about two months before they started again, Outlook Business reported. Before you buy or rent a bike for this work, check in the Rapido Captain app that bike taxi rides run in your city.
Things to know before you start
- No fixed salary. Rapido’s terms call captains independent contractors, not employees. You earn per ride, so slow days mean less money.
- Costs are yours. Fuel, servicing, phone data, and keeping your licence, insurance and PUC valid all come out of your earnings.
- Fees can apply. Joining is free, but Rapido’s terms let it charge fees, or a subscription for autos and cabs, as shown in the app.
- Rules depend on your state. Bike taxi rules differ from state to state and can change.

What you take home depends on your city, your hours, how many rides you get and your fuel costs. Earnings go to your Captain wallet, and you move them to your bank.
Is a Rapido captain job good?
It suits people who want flexible work: Rapido has no fixed shifts, joining is free, and rides come with accident and medical cover up to ₹5 lakh. The downsides are no fixed salary, fuel and bike costs that you pay, and bike taxi rules that differ by state. Check that bike taxi runs in your city first.
